As a kid growing up in India in the 90’s, Mother’s Day was not a thing for us. The first time I got introduced to the concept was during high school. The Internet had just become a household thing, thus giving us a glimpse into life on the other side of the world.
I remember the first ever gift I gave my mom for this occasion. It was a blue glass flower vase. Two decades later, that vase still holds a place of pride in my mom’s display cabinet.
I became a mother just a week before Mother’s Day. That was perhaps the best gift I could have received for this day.
While I believe that gifts are not the primary focus of these special days, I also agree that they are essential to show someone we care. And our mothers deserve all the gifts in the world.
So, with that in mind, here’s a list of Mother’s Day gift ideas for you.
1. Something Personalized
When it comes to Mother’s Day gifts, this is by far the most popular choice. We moms love it when a present is thoughtful and catered to us specifically. Moreover, nowadays getting something engraved or monogrammed is actually quite affordable. Some options for personalized gifts are:
- Monogrammed jewelry or accessories
- Customized photo albums or frames
- Engraved keepsakes or mementos
2. Gift Experiences
Give the mom in your life a well-deserved break. I know most of us can happily do with a day of pampering or enjoying activities we love. You can show that you care with things like:
- Spa days or massages
- Cooking classes or wine tastings
- Concert or play tickets
3. Something Practical
Gifting something that a person needs is always a brilliant idea. Especially if you know that they have been wanting it for some time. Try to find out if there is an item they have had their eyes on and get that. Ideas could include (but are not limited to):
- Luxurious home goods or linens
- Gourmet food or wine baskets
- High-quality kitchen appliances or tools
- Technology devices
4. Get Creative
Perhaps the most popular gifting choice for Mother’s Day is a handmade gift. While moms love anything wonky their kids make them, as grown-ups, we need to do better. But don’t worry if you are not particularly crafty. There are some DIYs that are so easy that even a novice can handle them with ease.
- Handmade crafts or artwork like candles, hand painting, paper crafts, or even crochet and kitting.
- Family tree or personalized picture blanket
- Customized garden stone or memorial
5. A Subscription Service
How about something that you know they will enjoy periodically? Get them a subscription service for that. Nowadays, one can find a service for most hobbies and passions. Options include:
- Monthly book clubs or magazine subscriptions
- Wine or flower delivery services
- Streaming services or online courses
It is often said that a single day is not enough to celebrate the moms in our lives. While that is true, you can still make one day truly special for her. A thoughtful and curated gift is a great way to do that.
Peace.
